The Democrats have made their bed, now like it or not, they are going to sleep in it.
Joe Biden and the Democrats, not to mention the media, have put themselves in a rather difficult position, to say the least. Back when the demonstrations / riots over the George Floyd death erupted across the nation they immediately jumped on the bandwagon.
Not only did Kamala Harris, now the Democratic VP candidate promote the continuation of the "protests", she actively sought and encouraged people to donate to bail protestors out of jail.
I know the excuse will be that she was not condoning rioting, but on the other hand she was not condemning it either. I would also add that, especially in a liberal city like Minneapolis, peaceful protestors do not find themselves in jail. By the time she did both the interview and sought to bail out "protestors", Minneapolis was in flames. It would not have been only easy but expected of a US Senator, a former prosecutor and California State Attorney General to support peaceful protests, and still condemn lawlessness and the destruction of private property.
She did not. Democrats did not.
Kamala Harris was not alone, very few Democrat politicians have come out and condemned the rioting that has taken over the United States these past few months. Keisha Lance Bottoms the Atlanta Mayor is the only Democrat politician that has publicly and strongly condemned the lawless rioting in her city from the start. Other than Bottoms, like Kamal above, Democrat politicians not only tolerated the protestors, they encouraged it. Their reasoning being that the new "woke" culture would be on their side. That changed.
Now that public sentiment has turned from sympathetic acceptance to concerned anger, the protestors/rioters which are identified with the Democratic Party are becoming a noose around their necks and a growing liability. Virtually overnight, after months of silence or outright support, and without distinction between peaceful and violent protests, the Democrats are trying to condemn the bad without alienating the good protestors. Good luck.
The problem is that the only way to truly go after the violence in these protest is to actually prosecute the perpetrators. Democrat politicians who actually govern in the states and cities where the protests are violent have been unwilling to do so, weakness breeds contempt. Portland, Oregon where the mayor has all but promoted the desecration and destruction of his own city in a replay only slightly different than that which took place earlier this summer in Seattle, is now being set upon by the very people he has spent years appeasing. Over the past couple of days the mob has turned on Mayor Ted Wheeler, first occupying his condominium, then attempting to light it afire. Ted, like the pandering fool he is, rather than unleash holy hell on the thugs, has announced he will move to protect his neighbors. Similar cowardly aquiencance to mob rule has plagued Democrats all across the nation to the point that now, they must do something or risk the equivalent of a political dumpster fire come November.
One would think that the Democrat Party has some influence with the radical left, at the very least an open communication channel. But really how much, influence could they have? If they did have that kind of influence the damage would have stopped long ago and a far more positive political message of truly mass peaceful protests could have been theirs to trumpet. Instead they are left holding the burning bag of wrecked cities, which they govern. So, how about just put out the word to the mob to just cool things until after November?
Have you ever tried to reason with a radical? You can't, and neither can the Democrats. So, there are only two possible outcomes. The violence goes on, or the Democrats actually crack down on the people that they see as their allies, not unlike the KKK of old. But they have worse problems than this coming their way.
A defense attorney for the fired Minneapolis police officer charged with murder in connection with the death of George Floyd is asking a judge to drop all charges, arguing the 46-year-old man's death was allegedly from a drug overdose and not caused by the officer planting his knee in the back of Floyd's neck.
After listing all of George Floyd's pre-existing health conditions as well as the toxic combination of drugs in his system we learn this:
Nelson added a footnote quoting Hennepin County Medical Examiner Dr. Andrew Baker saying, "If [Mr. Floyd] were found dead at home alone and no other apparent causes, this could be acceptable to call an OD."
Then there is this:
Nelson also included Minneapolis Police Department training materials on the proper use of the "Maximal Restraint Technique," in which photos show demonstrations of officers simulating putting their knee on a handcuffed subject's neck. Nelson argued the training material appeared to contradict a statement made shortly after the incident by Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo that he had not seen "anything that says you place your knee on someone's neck when they're facedown, handcuffed."
"Thus, any risk created by Mr. Chauvin's conduct lies largely with those who train MPD officers and those who approve such training," Nelson wrote in the motion filed on Friday.
It is extremely unlikely that the charges will be dismissed, but the facts of the case will begin to enter into the public consciousness and rational, ordinary people will want to just put the chaos behind us and just await the trial next year for the facts to come out.
Then there is Kenosha "injustice." Unlike the George Floyd trial of next year, it is just a matter of days before a determination into the fate of the officer involved is determined. If you read the facts of what led up to the encounter, there is every possibility that charges against the officer will be minor if not brought at all. If either of these is the outcome of the investigation, Katie bar the door.
In short the Democratic Party, not Donald Trump, is riding a whirlwind of potential upheaval. As people become more aware of the less than traumatic facts behind the incidents which were the catalyst for recent violence, the dissolution with continuing turmoil will only grow. This will occur in conjunction with radicals and even reasonable protestors becoming frustrated by lack of action and a sense of betrayal by Democrats which will most likely lead to even more violence.
Trump, to his credit, has grown ever more resolute and consistent in his push for law and order. He has also been able, to this point, to keep the protests and their accompanying violence and civic turmoil pinned to the Democrats. He has and should continue to, condition Federal help on being asked for by state and local authorities as he did in Kenosha. In doing this he not only gives no opening for Democrats to accuse him of stirring up trouble, he is the one who brings stability to chaos.
The Democrats only hope in all this is to make Trump the cause of the violence but the only way they can truly do this, is by looking like they are continuing to promote the violence to undermine Trump.
It is sad that our political discourse has dissolved to this degree, but it has and it predates Trump. The advent of Trump only brought the festering political puss to the surface, but he did not do that, the left did. I am positive, in my own mind, that Trump would have been one of the least partisan Presidents in decades but the growing radicalization of the left made all this inevitable and reasoning with radicals is a fools game, you must crush them.
